Huawei has been embroiled in controversy after the U.S. Government accused the company of spying for China. Since those allegations, the Chinese manufacturer has struggled with trade bans with U.S. companies. Companies such as Qualcomm, Mediatek, and TSMC have been trying to hatch trade deals so they can send parts to Huawei. Now, TSMC seems like it has secured a contract with a caveat: it cannot deliver anything outside of “mature technology.” According to the report, “mature technology” and specifics of parts are not defined. What is Huawei willing to do to to get back into the good graces of the United States and other countries that have shunned it? A Huawei representative recently stated that the multinational company is ready to reveal its internal operations. Their goal is to assure national governments that they should not be considered a security threat. The United States government has been actively working over the last two years or so to limit Huawei's access to American companies and consumers. The current United States-China trade war has had a major effect on several technology and telecommunication companies. Apple is one of the corporations that as borne the brunt of the trade war. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently met with President Trump and warned that the new tariffs made it difficult to compete with companies like Samsung. President Trump and Tim Cook met for dinner this past Friday at the president’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. Apple manufactures many of its products in China and contend that it would be difficult to entirely move manufacturing to other countries.
