There has been a lot of drama surrounding Microsoft's next major feature update for Windows 10. It was first rumored to be called the Spring Creators Update, following last year's Creators Update (Spring) and the Fall Creators Update (Fall). More recently, however, all signs are pointing towards the release being called the Windows 10 April Update. While we don't have anything against the "April Update" naming, it's looking like the name could be out of style before it is ever released to the public. A new report alleges that the April Update will in fact land on May 8th in the United... Read more...
The next major update for Windows 10 is supposed to hit sometime this month, though one of the questions that has yet to be answered is what exactly will it be called? We now have an answer. While still not officially announced, it appears that Microsoft has officially moved on from calling it the Spring Creators Update and will instead simply refer to the next major release as the Windows 10 April Update. That is based on a new RTM (Release To Manufacturing) build that Microsoft recently pushed out to all rings of the Windows Insider program. Otherwise known as Redstone 4, Microsoft Edge gains... Another bug in the upcoming Redstone 4 update for Windows 10 could potenitally add another delay to its roll out, depending on how things shake out. Over on Reddit, several users have noted a weird issue that is causing the Windows 10 Settings section to crash when selecting the "Set defaults by app" setting. If you have one of the preview builds installed, you can see if you are affected by heading to Settings > Apps > Default apps > Set defaults by app, and then selecting the related option. It does not appear that everyone has this issue, though there is enough chatter that Microsoft... Read more...
We've all been working under the assumption that Windows 10 Redstone 4 would called the Windows 10 Spring Creators Update. The Spring Creators Update naming was originally unearthed during a Microsoft Bug Bash, and fit in nicely with the previous Windows 10 Creators Update (Spring 2017) and the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (Fall 2017). However, we're now learning that the upcoming major release of Windows 10 might actually have a differentname, and it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Microsoft watcher (and noted leaker) @h0x0d has uncovered a Microsoft promotional WinHEC video... Read more...
The Spring Creators Update for Windows 10 was supposed to have started rolling out to PCs last week, but a last minute "block bug" discovery gave Microsoft the willies, and it decided to delay its release. Now we know exactly why. While there were no details about the bug at the time, Microsoft stated in a blog post this week that more Windows Insiders than usual had been experiencing blue screen of death (BSOD) errors with what would have been the finalized build. "As Build 17133 progressed through the rings, we discovered some reliability issues we wanted to fix. In certain cases, these reliability... Read more...
Spring is in the air (at least for some parts of the United States that have finally thawed out from months of heavy snowfall), which means that it's time for Microsoft's Windows 10 Spring Creators Update. Or at least, we were expecting its public release earlier this week. However, Microsoft still hasn't flipped the switch to distribute the major Windows 10 update to the masses. According to a new report, Microsoft had originally scheduled to release the Spring Creators Update on Patch Tuesday (4/10). However, a "blocking bug" was significant enough to cause Microsoft to hold off... Read more...
Nobody likes waiting in line, but the alternative is to cut in front of someone, and that's just rude. But what if you could head to the front of the line without actually shoving anyone aside? Well, you can, at least as it pertains to installing the Spring Creators Update for Windows 10. The update is supposed to start rolling out to users today, but as with past updates, Microsoft is likely to go with a staggered release to ensure things go smoothly. If you want to install the Spring Creators Update right away, your first course of action is to back up any important data, just in case things... Read more...
When the Windows 10 Spring Creators Update lands later this year, there's one big change in store that should be welcome to impatient computing enthusiasts -- or just anyone that hates system "downtime" when you could be getting work done. Microsoft has caught heavy flak for major Windows Updates that are slow to install, and effectively take over your machine leaving you helpless as the progress bar slowly creeps towards 100% (and then reboots only to start the process over again). Microsoft says that with the Creators Update that was released in April 2017, the "offline" phase of the install... Read more...
