After months of leaks, the LG G6 has finally been officially unveiled. LG has gone completely back to the drawing board versus its predecessor, the questionably modular LG G5. In its place is a sleek, amazingly compact and efficient aluminum unibody design with a large 5.7-inch display. It's a truly premium flagship device and we got some quality hands-on time with it in New York last week.  That display is the main focal point of the G6, and it has a rather unorthodox 18:9 screen ratio, which LG says allows the device to fit better in your hand. The thin bezels of the new flagship also give the LG G6 an 80 percent screen to body ratio. LG notes the aspect ratio is being adopted... Read more...
OnePlus has just announced a minor update to its flagship OnePlus 3 smartphone, which was announced over the summer. The new OnePlus 3T brings with it a few noticeable updates, but we doubt that any of them will be enough to get owners of the original OnePlus 3 to trade in their devices. The most prominent change is the addition of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor (in place the “old” Snapdragon 820). The SoC is still paired with 6GB of RAM, and up to 128GB of internal storage can be ordered. The 16MP rear camera remains, but the front-facing “selfie” camera has been upgraded from 8MP to 16MP (Samsung 3P8SP sensor). It incorporates an f/2.0 lens and features phase detection autofocus (PDAF).... Read more...
Earlier this month, Google unveiled its Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, which represent the search giant’s ground-up vision of what a modern Android flagship should be. Packing Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 821 processors under the hood, the new Pixels gave sticker shock to enthusiasts that have been accustomed to the relatively budget pricing of the preceding Nexus family of smartphones. But for those of you that still would like a smartphone with a flagship-worthy SoC minus the flagship price, LeEco has you covered with the new Le Pro 3. Although the Le Pro 3 is still running Android 6.0 Marshmallow instead of Android 7.0 Nougat, it does include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC with 4GB RAM.... Read more...
On two previous occasions, ASUS has announced new members of its ZenFone 3 family. Between the jumble of specs and models relegated to certain localities, a few bits may have been dropped in translation. However, at the company’s Zenvolution event held this evening, ASUS made things crystal clear surrounding the ZenFone 3 family, and what versions will be available to the U.S. market. Starting from the budget end, we have the ZenFone 3 Laser which is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. As you can tell by the processor selected, this is geared at users that care more about budget pricing than tantalizing specs. You’ll receive a 5.5-inch... Read more...
For the better part of the year, one of the most sought after System-on-Chips (SoCs) for flagship devices in the mobile world has been Qualcomm's speedy Snapdragon 820, an efficient chip highlighted by the company's first ever custom designed 64-bit Kyro CPU with clockspeeds up to 2.2GHz. Well, now  there's the Snapdragon 821, an even faster SoC that delivers a 10 percent bump in performance, according to Qualcomm. The heart and soul of the of the Snapdragon 821 is still Kyro, a potent part built on a 14nm FinFET manufacturing process. But instead of topping out at 2.2GHz, Snapdragon 821 can reach clockspeeds of up to 2.4GHz for a bit of added oomph (and bragging rights). A 200MHz advantage... Read more...
