It’s 10pm. Do you know where your selfies are? It was recently revealed that Popsugar’s Twinning app has been accidentally leaking users’ photos. It is believed that hundreds of thousands of photos were available to anyone who knew how to access them. Popsugar is a media company that focuses on trends, fashion, beauty, fitness, and food. Its Twinning app is a photo-matching tool that finds a user’s top-five celebrity “twins”. Users need to simply upload a selfie of themselves from the shoulders up through the #twinning app. They are then able to share their matches on Facebook and Twitter with a URL. Let's face it folks, the practice of taking selfies is here to stay. So are selfie sticks, for that matter. Rather than fight it, Facebook and its Oculus division are embracing it, taking a real-world trend and injecting into the virtual world. It sounds a little silly on the surface, but it's a logical extension that could lead to some interesting use case scenarios. Out in San Francisco at Facebook's F8 developer conference, Facebook CTO Mike Schroepfer covered his face with a Rift headset. Well, there goes our dating prospects. Just when singles had discovered the key to attracting mates – posing for a selfie with a tiger – New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a law that bans contact between most people and tigers. That’s sure to put a dent in the number of “tiger selfies” that have been appearing on online dating sites.
