In the words of another group that was super popular in the 2000’s, Mad Catz is “going down, down in an earlier round”. After a rough year, the producer of unique gaming accessories and peripherals has filed for bankruptcy. According to Mad Catz representatives, “The Board of Directors made the decision to have the Company make a voluntary assignment in bankruptcy after considering various strategic alternatives, the interest of various stakeholders of the Company as well as a number of other factors.” Mad Catz filed for a “voluntary petition for relief under chapter 7 of U.S. Bankruptcy code” in order to start a liquidation of their assets on March 30th. For the time being, gamers who've pledged their allegiance to the PC (or simply prefer it) will have to rock out to Rock Band 4 with their game consoles out. Harmonix wasn't able to raise its goal of $1.5 million—or even come close, really—through crowdfunding site Fig to make possible a port of Rock Band 4 to PC, so for now, the project is scrapped. The crowdfunding campaign ran for 35 days and gathered $792,817 from 1,674 backers, or barely more than half of what Harmonix was seeking. In the past 24 hours, Mad Catz has lost its President and CEO (Darren Richardson), Chairman (Thomas Brown) and General... Read more...

Normally that wouldn't be a problem, except in this case, Harmonix employees involved in the development and promotion of Rock Band 4 were among those posting glowing reviews. The apparent conflict of interest was first brought to light on Reddit and followed up on by Desctructoid, the latter of which got in touch with Harmonix about the situation. Harmonix confirmed that employees had been leaving positive reviews, though said it believes nothing malicious or deceiving was intended. "Harmonix has clarified its... Read more...
