With all of the hoopla surrounding the Tesla Cybertruck in recent weeks, the Rivian R1T has relegated to the shadows in the electric truck world. While the Cybertruck looks like something out of Bladerunner, the R1T -- for better or worse -- looks more like a regular pickup. However, don't let those looks fool you; Rivian is showing off a new feature of the upcoming quad-motor version of its R1T that no other production truck can pull off at this point. Rivian is calling this new feature the "Tank Turn", and it allows the R1T to basically spin 360 degrees in-place.  This might be handy for pulling off a bad-ass "u-turn" to impress your friends, or to get out of a tricky... Watch out, Tesla. There’s a new EV startup in town and it has the backing of one of the largest companies in the world. Earlier this week, we reported that both General Motors and Amazon were considering investing in Rivian, which is on track to deliver an all-electric pickup truck and crossover SUV early next decade. Today, Rivian has confirmed that Amazon has invested a healthy $700 million into the company. But according to a new report, Rivian could soon be getting a big boost in confidence (and funds) from two unlikely sources. According to Reuters, both Amazon and General Motors are looking at taking minority stakes in the Michigan-based automotive startup. Based on comments from people familiar with the backroom financials, the investment would value Rivian at between $1 billion to $2 billion. If all goes... Read more...
We all know that Tesla is working on a burly pickup truck to add to its electric vehicle family, but it isn't the only company that is looking to take on the titans in the industry. Rivian, a U.S.-based automotive startup, is hoping to turn a few heads with its new R1T. This is a mid-sized pickup that would compare favorably in size and capacity against the likes of the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon and the upcoming Ford Ranger. What's most mind-boggling about the R1T is its alleged specs. Being that this is an electric vehicle, it will come from the factory with standard all-wheel drive thanks to there being a drive motor attached to each wheel.... Read more...
