Lenovo is turning its attention to its mobile workstation family, specifically its ThinkPad P Series which are getting upgraded with more potent processors and onboard graphics. Kicking things off are the ThinkPad P53, which is being billed as the world’s most powerful 15-inch class mobile workstation, and the ThinkPad P73, its 17-inch counterpart. Both are powered by up to 9th generation Intel Core i9 or Xeon octa-core processors and can be equipped with up to 128GB of DDR4 memory via four SODIMM slots. Although the Turing-based GeForce RTX 2000 series hit store shelves first, it was about a week before their initial unveiling that NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang took to the stage and announced the Quadro RTX family of workstation-class GPUs, targeting professional graphics applications. As of today, Quadro RTX series consists of four graphics cards, ranging from the monstrous Quadro RTX 8000 with its 48GB of GDDR6 to the Quadro RTX 4000, which targets more mainstream content creation professionals. NVIDIA is fleshing out its Quadro RTX series of professional graphics cards with the Quadro RTX 4000, now the least expensive option in the refreshed Quadro family with dedicated hardware to accelerate ray tracing workloads. As with the higher-end models, the new Quadro RTX 4000 is based on the company's latest generation Turing GPU architecture. The Quadro RTX 4000 release joins a growing product stack that already includes the Quadro RTX 8000, 6000, and 5000. We been hearing a lot about NVIDA's next-generation GPU architecture since late last year, and today NVIDIA is announcing the first products based on Turing. NVIDIA is targeting the professional graphics market first with the new Quadro RTX 8000, RTX 6000 and RTX 5000 GPUs. Turing GPU architecture replaces Pascal, which has served both the consumer and professional markets since 2016. We are getting oh-so-close to the launch of NVIDIA's next-generation of consumer graphics cards, presumably launching on August 20, if previous rumors and leaks turn out to accurate. As that date draws closer, there is more evidence of what is to come. That evidence can be found at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) where NVIDIA has filed a few interesting names.
