The e-reader market has experienced quick growth over the past couple of years, but even today, only a couple of standouts are well-known. Amazon's Kindle is easily the most well-recognized e-reader out there, with most every other one riding shotgun at best. But what the influx of lower-end, lesser-known e-readers has done is drive down prices overall, and for those who don't really care about branding or access to Amazon's specific e-book store, that's great news. Also, the impending boom in Tablet PCs has left the e-reader market in an interesting position. Color e-ink remains a holy grail of sorts within the e-reader industry. There's still no company out there that is producing market-ready readers with a color e-ink screen, mostly because the technology just isn't advanced enough to be created cheaply. That little fact isn't stopping Paradigm Shift from touting a new pair of color readers at the Consumer Electronics Show, and it's also hoping to have them available for sale in the US shortly. What won't be happening is the unveiling of the first color e-ink e-readers for sale; what you will see are two new readers with color LCD displays, which will obviously have a more serious impact on battery life.
