We've seen renders and real-life images of a new OnePlus 7T Pro that is allegedly coming later this year, but it appears that OnePlus has another smartphone in the works as well. OnePlus is known for packing a lot of features into its phones for hundreds less than the competition, and this new phone is confirmed to be cheaper than the OnePlus 7 Pro while keeping one of its defining features. The current OnePlus 7 Pro starts at $669, but OnePlus CEO Pete Lau says that this new device will be even more affordable. He didn't get into specifics, but maybe we'll see a device that dips back below the $600 price point? Lau did confirm, however, that even though this device will be cheaper,... Read more...
OnePlus has made a name for itself for its steadfast mission to deliver flagship smartphones to customers with value pricing. The most recent example of this is the OnePlus 7 Pro, which offers Snapdragon 855 muscle and a notch-less display for hundreds less than the competition from Apple and Samsung. One other “plus” of going with OnePlus has been the company's close relationship with Google in getting users quick access to Android updates -- that even extends to beta versions of Android Q (now officially called Android 10). OnePlus just announced today that its OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro smartphones are getting the Android 10 Developer Preview 5, which was released a few weeks... Read more...
We’re just a few weeks away from the official launch of the OnePlus 7 family of flagship smartphones, but the leaks have been coming in at a rapid pace. Today, we’ve got a clear look at the OnePlus 7 Pro in two different colors: Mirror Grey and Nebula Blue.  The images, which show the smartphone from the front and the back, confirm the notch-less display, which is made possible by a pop-up selfie camera. Also clearly visible are minimal bezels around the display and the inclusion of an in-display fingerprint reader; a holdover from the OnePlus 6T.  Out back, we get a glimpse at the triple rear cameras, which is an upgrade from the dual cameras on the OnePlus 6T.... It will not be long before OnePlus formally introduces its next flagship phones, the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, which are expected to arrive in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, some benchmark scores are starting to pop up. Over at Geekbench, there are at least three sets of scores for a "OnePlus GM1917," all of which crack the 11,000 mark in the multi-score test. The OnePlus GM1917 is the OnePlus 7 Pro variant. Assuming there is no funny business going on with the database entries, the upcoming handset is looking like a strong contender. Here is a look at the scores that have popped up in the database so far... We cannot say for sure if those scores are legitimate. If they are, then the... Read more...
We have long felt that Samsung's smartphones feature some of the best looking display panels in the business, and there is empirical evidence to suggest that our eyes have not been lying to us. The competition may be catching up, though. DisplayMate, perhaps the definitive source of display analysis, just gave the OnePlus 7 a rare A+ rating. There are a few things to unpack there. First of all, an A+ is the highest rating possible, and therefore is extremely tough to achieve—there is no A++ or any of that nonsense to water down the top grade. DisplayMate announced the OnePlus 7's newly earned grade on Twitter. DisplayMate's in-depth Lab Tests of the OnePlus 7 Pro OLED Display have just... Read more...
At this point, we know that OnePlus is poised to launch its flagship OnePlus 7 phones on May 14th. Over the past few weeks, OnePlus has been teasing features of the phones, with that latest coming via a tweet. The latest teaser shows a line art drawing of the OnePlus 7 Pro with three vertically-aligned rear cameras. This lines up with previous reports and leaked renders of the OnePlus 7 Pro. The lesser, "standard" OnePlus 7 is expected to soldier on with a dual camera setup on the rear. Bells and whistles make noise. We now have a date for the official unveil of the OnePlus 7 Series of smartphones. OnePlus has been teasing the release of its next-generation flagship for the past few weeks, and now it has confirmed that it will reveal all on May 14th at 11am EST, less than a month from now. OnePlus is promising that this will be “our greatest launch event ever” and that it “marks the pinnacle of our dedication to craftsmanship and passion for creating breakthrough technologies.” The tagline for the event is “Go Beyond Speed,” so we should expect to hear quite a bit about innovative new features rather than the usual drumbeat about faster performance year-over-year (which... There is quite a bit of hype surrounding the OnePlus 7 family that is now right around the corner, and OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has added to it by talking up the display technology on the higher end variant of the two models that will be released. According to Lau, the OnePlus 7 Pro will not only be fast, but exceptionally smooth. It is easy to confuse those two things, but they are not the same. The OnePlus 7 Pro will be fast because, barring a curve ball, it is likely to wield a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. It's also rumored to have 10GB of RAM (up from 6GB on the regular OnePlus 6). But as Lau notes in a teaser posted to Twitter, "Smooth is more challenging than fast—a true test of... Read more...
We’ve been hearing for quite some time that OnePlus is not only working on a follow-up to the OnePlus 6T, but also a 5G variant that would serve as the flagship of the company’s smartphone family. Today we’re getting our first glimpse at what is allegedly the OnePlus 7 Pro, the company’s first 5G smartphone. Images of the device popped up on Weibo, and they show a device with curved display edges along the side and overall slim bezels. There are also no visible notches or punch hole cutouts, which has us wondering what OnePlus is going to do with the selfie camera. The most obvious design choice in this case would be a slider mechanism, but that is pure speculation... Read more...
It’s getting close to the time when OnePlus announces its first Android flagship for 2019. The company’s follow-up to the OnePlus 6T is likely to be called the OnePlus 7, and we’ve already captured some pretty detailed speculative renders of the device. Now we’re getting an idea of what kind of specs the smartphone will pack when it launches. The latest leak comes from Giztop, which indicates that the smartphone will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, which is pretty much a given at this point. However, the first interesting bit of information is that the chip can be paired with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM; each is paired with 128GB or 256GB of internal storage... Read more...
We love smartphones here at HotHardware; especially when it comes devices that typically don’t try to break your spirits (or wallets) with quadruple-digit prices. Today, we’re allegedly getting an early glimpse at what OnePlus is working on for its next-generation flagship. Keep in mind, this isn’t the company’s upcoming 5G smartphone, but a 4G LTE replacement for the OnePlus 6T. This alleged OnePlus 7 – which is seen here in renders supplied by @OnLeaks -- carries on the company’s typically handsome design aesthetic, except that it ditches the bothersome notches that started with the OnePlus 6, and was somewhat rectified with the teardrop notch on... OnePlus is working on a new smartphone, the OnePlus 7, and the leaks to this point suggest it will feature a full-front display without a notch (including the lack of a teardrop notch) and a slider design. Interestingly though, it might not support wireless charging, even though that is quickly becoming a standard feature on flagship phones. So, what gives? Publicly, the company's stance is that wireless charging is not where it should be, and since OnePlus phones are apparently known for their charging capabilities, OnePlus has decided not to implement it into the OnePlus 7. "OnePlus charging is one of the best, Wireless charging is far inferior," OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said in an interview with... Read more...
When Apple unveiled its first iPhone X in 2017, iPhone (and Android) fans around the world let out a collective gasp as they witnessed the next stage of smartphone design: the infamous "notch." From the get-go, notched designs seemed forced, especially when countless Android manufacturers jumped on the bandwagon seemingly instantaneously, as if major display manufacturers were behind the design trend. Today, Android smartphone vendors seem to have improved their notch smarts, with OnePlus being one of the best examples of how to make a good notch that doesn't stand out. On the OnePlus 6, the notched OP generation began with a modest footprint (and respectable "notch control"), while the OnePlus... Read more...
