We now have a date for the official unveil of the OnePlus 7 Series of smartphones. OnePlus has been teasing the release of its next-generation flagship for the past few weeks, and now it has confirmed that it will reveal all on May 14th at 11am EST, less than a month from now.

OnePlus is promising that this will be “our greatest launch event ever” and that it “marks the pinnacle of our dedication to craftsmanship and passion for creating breakthrough technologies.” The tagline for the event is “Go Beyond Speed,” so we should expect to hear quite a bit about innovative new features rather than the usual drumbeat about faster performance year-over-year (which is to be expected).

There will reportedly be at least three SKUs in the OnePlus 7 Series: the standard OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro (with or without 5G connectivity). The OnePlus 7 will have a small teardrop notch in its display for the selfie camera, while the OnePlus 7 Pro variants will use a pop-up selfie camera to provide a truly notchless display experience.

We expect to see things like a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC combined with 8GB or more of RAM along with an in-display fingerprint reader. Two things that the phones won’t have, however, are a headphone jack or wireless charging (the latter of which OnePlus still refuses to support). The OnePlus 7 Pro would add a Snapdragon X50 modem for 5G connectivity.

One other feature reserved for the OnePlus 7 Pro models is a new display which the company describes: "Smooth is more challenging than fast—a true test of hardware and software." This is reportedly in reference to a 90Hz display panel that is a cut above the 60Hz panels typically used on smartphones. However, it would still fall well short of the 120Hz high watermark set by Razer’s family of gaming phones.

As has been the case with previous launch events, OnePlus is currently selling tickets ($20) if you want to attend in person, or you can simply watch the live stream from the company’s website.
