Yesterday, AMD announced the first members of its third-generation Ryzen Threadripper family of HEDT processors. The Threadripper 3960X (24 cores, 48 threads) and the Threadripper 3970X (32 cores, 64 threads) are tremendous processors in their own right, but there is something allegedly even more sinister afoot from AMD. We've been hearing rumors for months that AMD is working on a monstrous 64-core, 128-thread Threadripper to plant its flag as the absolute king of the HEDT processor market.
