In a surprise announcement, Nintendo's senior managing executive officer, Shinya Takahashi, said the company has decided to scrap the current development of Metroid Prime 4 for the Nintendo Switch, and start over from scratch. That means the game is no where near complete, despite being announced all the way back at E3 in 2017. While the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have dominated console gaming news at E3 over the past few years, the blockbuster debut of the Switch means that Nintendo has a lot to talk about this year. Perhaps the biggest news that came from the Nintendo camp this year was an official launch date for Super Mario Odyssey — Mario’s first official adventure title on the Switch (we’re not counting Mario Kart 8 Deluxe).
