One of the most popular gaming franchises of all time is getting an eighth title (sixth main installment) this fall. We're talking about Halo 5: Guardians, which will release on October 27, 2015, and take its place in history as Master Chief's first native Xbox One appearance, Microsoft announced in a Twitter post under its Xbox handle. In anticipation of the release, Microsoft ran a couple of advertisements that aired during the season finale of The Walking Dead last night. Microsoft also posted the same trailers on YouTube. Sorry, Halo fans, but the likelihood of Halo 5 shipping sometime this year is looking pretty slim at the moment. The Master Chief himself -- or more precisely, Steve Downes, the voice of Master Chief -- dropped the bombshell during a recent interview, a move that attracted the attention of Microsoft (and the Internet at large), which is essentially claiming Downes misspoke. Let's back up a moment. In the original interview with GameZone, Downes was asked where Halo 5 resides in the development and how much of the game has been voiced at this point. There seems to be one last detail we need to take care of before we put the fork in the HD DVD format: The hard drive for the Xbox 360.  It appears Microsoft is preparing to offer an Xbox360 with a stand-alone Blu-ray drive as early as May of 2008.Michael Ephraim the Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment said: "We would welcome Microsoft to the Blu-ray stable. In fact it is quite logical for them as the PS3 has been very succesful in driving consumers to Blu-ray. Halo 3 had a lot of hype surrounding its release. For a change, the hype was warranted. Microsoft said  sales of  the video game reached an astounding $170 million in the first day alone. And if you're into apples and oranges comparisons, that dwarfs the opening grosses for many other popular forms of entertainment. Microsoft said on Wednesday the game had beaten movie releases such as Spider-Man 3 and book launches such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in opening sales.
