When Apple's the focal-point of a new product launch, I don't think many people ever expect that the product is going to be priced competitively. Apple has long been able to charge some nice premiums on its products because many who buy them believe that they're worth it. Thus, when a product like the Apple Watch finally hits retail, it'd seem safe to believe that it's not going to beat anyone else on price. While we're not sure of what the pricing is actually going to be until launch, what we do know is that the special 'Edition' models are going to enter Apple into a brand-new luxury territory. According to respected blogger John Gruber, the price of those babies could reach $10,000 easily.... Read more...
With a few companies introducing smartwatch products at IFA in Berlin, Intel's taking a slightly different approach. The chip-maker's wearable debut in Berlin is far different than those being issued by LG, Samsung, and Motorola, focusing on fashion instead of nuts-and-bolts. It's called MICA, which is short for "My Intelligent Communication Accessory," and Intel's calling it a "feminine accessory blending seamlessly into everyday life." While it handles text messages, push alerts, and other notifications like most other smartwatches, it's also snazzed up on the design front. In a strange twist, Intel has infused semi-precious stones and water snakeskin (no, this isn't a joke), weaving in a curved... Read more...
Heard of Gaiser high-end PCs? Yeah, neither had we, until we came across the glorious machine shown here. This ultra-luxurious PC is way, way more than just your next small form factor PC. It's an icon, a status symbol and a perfect way to spend upwards of $30,000. Yeah, 30 grand!  Compensating? The German company produces machines that, internally, aren't all that spectacular. You'll find the traditional array of internal specs (Core 2 Duo, a few gigabytes of RAM, a decent hard drive, etc.), but it's obviously the exterior that sells. Basically, if you can dream it up, these guys can make it happen. We're talking about 24 carat gold, Swarovski crystals and a jet black paint scheme fit for... Read more...
It's not often that we cover the remarkably extravagant, but this one was just too absurd to pass up. The MNEMOSYNE USB key, which was crafted by SolidAlliance, holds just 16GB of data and does absolutely nothing that any other USB flash drive does. The difference? Design and price. You see, this meticulously engineered device is probably the most beautiful, if not outrageous flash drive known to man. It's built in Milan, Italy -- widely known as a design capital of the world -- and is constructed of 100% aluminum. The puzzle cube design makes users work to access their data, but that's the beauty of it. Unfortunately, the beauty comes at a steep price, with the Japanese price tag sitting at... Read more...
