Microsoft is releasing a new test version of Internet Explorer, the market-leading Web browser that is facing competition from smaller players. The new beta, available today for free download, includes fixes for problems that were causing Internet Explorer 7 to stop working. This is Microsoft's third beta of Internet Explorer 7 made available to the general public, and Hachamovitch said there are plans for one more. The new version comes amid growing competition from browsers such as Firefox, which has long offered functions such as tabbed browsing. Mozilla's Firefox has become known for it's feature set and lack of exploits(well, compared to IE), and it can be argued that it's the better browser to use at home. In a corporate environment however, Internet Explorer's integration with Windows and other factors can outshine the usefulness of Firefox. "Two years ago I blogged about a similar subject. In his MIX06 keynote, Bill Gates promises to update IE as often as every nine to 12 months to keep pace with quickly evolving Web technologies and programming tools. Speaking at Microsoft's MIX06 conference in Las Vegas for Web developers, Gates said Microsoft's Internet Explorer version 7 Web browser, expected later this year, is long overdue, and the company plans more frequent browser updates in the future.
