In a relatively short period of time, we’ve gone from relatively thick bezels at the top and bottom of our smartphones, to increased real estate courtesy of a central notch, to punch hole displays. Samsung’s most recent Galaxy S10 family of smartphones (read our review here), which were announced last month, fully embrace their punch hole “Infinity-O” display. "Punching a hole in the OLED display is a very challenging technology," said Yang Byung-duk, who serves as Samsung’s vice president of Mobile Communication R&D Group Display. "We tried the technology for Galaxy's 10th anniversary model and think the strategy worked as a result."  Samsung... Read more...

We now have an official reveal date for the upcoming Galaxy S10 family of smartphones: February 20th. That date is roughly a month and a half away, which is plenty of time for channel leaks to start filtering out before for the big event. In an invitation sent out to the press, a vertically-oriented "10" is displayed, which leaves no doubt about what will be announced. The 10 also refers to the fact that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Galaxy S family. As you probably already know by now, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S10 will be available in a number of configurations. At last count, there will be at least four variants, with a range-topping version including 5G support. However, at the bottom of the totem pole will allegedly be the Galaxy S10 Lite. Noted leaker Ice_Universe has posted what he claims to be a protective display film for the upcoming Galaxy S10 Lite.  Although it's hard to make out from image, if you look closely you can see a circular cutout for the front-facing camera. Images filed with TENAA clearly show that the Galaxy A8x will be one of the first smartphones to feature Samsung's new Infinity-O display. While it's hard to see with the original images, there is a punch hole cutout in the top left corner of the display for the 24MP selfie camera. This will allow Samsung to achieve an enviable screen-to-body ratio without resorting to a display... Read more...
We may have our first look at the actual Infinity O display that could be the standout feature of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S10 smartphone. A leaked image purporting to be exactly that has surfaced on the web, though it's a blurry, low quality picture, as is often frustratingly the case with these types of things. The Infinity O display is rumored to introduced a new full-screen design with a punch-hole in the upper-left corner. This punch-hole is said to be a cutout for the front-facing selfie camera, and is key to enabling a notchless design and ditching a traditional bezel. A notch still isn't out of the question, though Samsung sort of backed itself into a corner after it mocked Apple for... Read more...
Over the past few months we've heard some pretty interesting rumors about Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S10 flagship. One of the rumored features that is most likely to come to fruition is the inclusion of an in-display fingerprint sensor, replacing the rear-mounted sensor on current Galaxy smartphones. One other feature reportedly on tap for at least some variants of the Galaxy S10 is a completely notch-free display. This rumor has been fueled by patents that Samsung filed for sensors embedded within the display -- including selfie cameras -- and the company's recent move to mock notched smartphones like the Google Pixel 3 XL. The hidden camera technology under... Read more...
