Call it a holiday promotion if you will: iBUYPOWER announced that it’s selling its new Gamer Paladin HS11 system for “under $1,000”, which, you guessed it, is code for $999. Still, that’s a liquid-cooled (albeit entry-level) system you’d be getting, so it’s an interesting deal. The offer is on the table through the end of 2011. The Gamer Paladin HS11 features an Intel Core i5 2500K (3.3GHz) processor which is cooled by a maintenance-free 120mm system. Housed in a mid-tower NZXT Source 210 case, other core components include an NVIDIA GTX 570 1.2GB graphics card, 8GB of DDR3-1600 RAM (from a manufacturer of your choice, it appears), a Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 motherboard,... If a monstrous fire-breathing beast adorned on the side of an overclocked X79 system isn't the very definition of awesome, then we'll punch Merriam-Webster right in the suck hole until it is. It's also part of iBuyPower's Chimera 4, the fourth generation of the boutique system builder's signature gaming line. Each Chimera 4 system ships with a 10 percent overclock, and some configurations come with the option to up the ante to a 20 percent boost. We pinged three system builders -- Dell, Hewlett Packard, and iBuyPower -- and asked each one to send us a back-to-school PC equally suited for work and play (read: Mainstream). What we're looking for is a flexible configuration that's able to put its nose to the grindstone during the week to tackle multimedia projects, whether they be for school or for work, yet capable of running wild on the weekends with sufficient pixel pushing power to satisfy our jones for blowing something (or someone) up, in the virtual world, of course. Our request leaves a lot up for interpretation, and wouldn't you know it, each vendor took a different path towards the same goal, yet they all chose Intel's Sandy Bridge... Read more...
Alice Cooper sang it wrong, school isn't out forever; with Labor Day in the rear view mirror, school is back in session. That means having to stock up on supplies and investing in essential items to get through the school year; like beer, condoms, and a new PC. You're on your own with the first two, but you've come to the right place for guidance on a new system. You can buy all of them at Walmart, along with almost everything else you can think of. What's that you say, what about custom gaming PCs? Turns out you can buy those at Wally World, too, at least if we're counting Walmart.com. We just got word that boutique system vendor iBuyPower has partnered with Walmart to launch the retailer's first custom configurator on Walmart.com, allowing shoppers to configure an entry-level or decked out desktop, or something in between. "There are few brands in the world that are as recognizable as Walmart," said Darren... Read more...

Another fine day, and another new machine to consider. iBuyPower has just teamed up with Tiger Direct to launch an all-new system, the Gamer Extreme 966 with Intel's new Core i7-960 CPU. It's a big more for a company that has primarily resided solely online, and by getting their machines into retailers, a great deal of new consumer eyes will be able to see 'em. Under the deal, all 33 Tiger Direct stores in five states and Puerto Rico will have them, and this will give consumers the chance to experience a machine that was hard to experience prior to this. The machine that'll be offered will have a liquid cooled CPU, a Xion Echo case, NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 460, 6GB of DDR3 memory, a 700-watt power... Read more...
A new GPU comes out, and PC makers jump at the chance to offer it in their systems. It's a cycle that we have become all too familiar with, but we can't complain. At least we aren't stuck waiting for outfits like iBuyPower to get their integration tactics in gear. Instead, the company has decided to offer the new AMD Radeon HD 6990 in their high-end desktops, providing those with lots of cash support for up to six displays, crazy frames per second and more graphical horsepower than they'll be able to take advantage of in the coming months. Specifics depend on what kind of machine you build, but you can bet this new Radeon won't be cheap. If you'd like to venture over and take a look, their website's... Read more...
