Around this time last year, Hewlett-Packard debuted the Omen 15 and Omen 17 gaming laptops, which were powered by Intel Kaby Lake processors and your choice of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10 Series or AMD Radeon RX 500 Series GPUs. Today, HP is delivering an update to the Omen 15 which upgrades the internals while giving the exterior a nip/tuck. On the hardware front, HP has outfitted the new Omen 15 with Intel's 8th generation processors, including the Core i7-8750H (Coffee Lake) which can Turbo Boost to 4.1GHz and has six physical cores. Up to 32GB of DDR4 memory is supported, and you have... Read more...
After a seemingly endless period of being unable to find a modern graphics card in stock without having to pay an outrageous markup, supplies are finally stabilizing to the point that we're starting to actually see "sane" pricing creep into the mainstream. NVIDIA is touting this good fortune for gamers and has its full range of GeForce GTX 10 Series Founders Edition cards available from its online store. The Founders Editions of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti ($699), GTX 1080 ($549), GTX 1070 TI ($449), GTX 1070 ($399), and GTX 1060 ($299) are available to ship within a week's time, limit 2 per customer.... Anyone who is into street racing knows never to assume what the other driver is rocking underneath the hood. Sure, that family sedan may look like it would get throttled by a Mustang or Camaro, but if it's sporting a souped up engine inside and maybe even a shot of NOS, it will burn rubber with the best of them. Likewise, Dell's updated XPS Tower Special Edition desktop system rolls to the line with a subdued style that seemingly belies what lays inside its compact chassis. Make no mistake, the XPS Tower SE is not a run-of-the-mill OEM system. It has some unique features that we will get to shortly,... Read more...
Intel launched its 8th generation Core desktop processors based on Coffee Lake architecture last week, and the hardware community quickly embrace the new Core i3, i5 and i7 processors. We already seen what MSI has to offer on the motherboard front for these Coffee Lake processors, and now the enthusiast hardware company has announced its latest small form factor machine: the Vortex G25. The Vortex G25 is available in two configurations, with the entry-level system feature a Core i5-8400 processor (six cores, six threads) and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5 memory. The upgraded model comes... Read more...
Well, this is an interesting rumor that is making the rounds today. Someone in Asia has snapped a picture of what appears to be a new gaming system that includes an unannounced NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti graphics card. The timing of this release is a bit curious, considering that the Pascal [consumer] line of graphics cards has been on the market for over a year now, and most are looking ahead to what NVIDIA has in store with Volta. However, it's quite possible that this GeForce GTX 1070 Ti -- if the leak is real -- is a direct response to AMD's Radeon RX Vega 56. As our review showed, the Radeon... Read more...
As we reported yesterday, hardware OEMs are paying closer attention to the needs of consumers who partake in cryptocurrency mining. As of late, Ethereum, a new form of currency similar to Bitcoin, has been a hot topic. For example, ASRock is marketing its H110 Pro BTC+ motherboard, which features an huge array13 PCIe slots to be the foundation of a what could be a seriously powerful GPU-powered mining rig. And with 13 PCIe slots at your disposal, you’ll want to find some [relatively] affordable GPUs with enough processing grunt to make mining financially worth your while. Mitch Steves,... Read more...
When Gigabyte was making the rounds with its BRIX Gaming UHD small form-factor PC, we were a bit puzzled by the inclusion of the older NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 instead of the (at the time) readily available Pascal-based GeForce GTX 1060 or GTX 1070. Apparently, we just needed to wait a few more months, as Gigabyte just leaked a potent follow-up that will more than likely be officially announced at CES 2017 in Las Vegas. The BRIX Gaming GT made a brief appearance on Gigabyte’s website before being taking down. However, the product pages were left up long enough for specs and pictures to be scooped... Read more...
Hot on the heels of debut of the MSI VR One gaming backpack comes a similar product from Zotac. The Zotac VR GO uses the same “PC backpack” concept as MSI, giving gamers an Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA Pascal power for unencumbered virtual reality gaming. In this case, you’ll find a quad-core Core i7-6700T (Skylake) processor paired with up to 32GB of RAM (16GB is preinstalled) along with a GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card. Storage duties are handled by a 240GB M.2 SATA SSD and you’ll be greeted by an abundance of ports (six USB 3.0, dual GbE, three HDMI 2.0, two DisplayPort, 3-in-1 media reader).... Read more...
MSI definitely got our attention with the unveil of its VR One gaming backpack. Traditional PC-based VR systems like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive require you to be tethered to your desktop or laptop, which limits your ability to freely interact with a virtual environment. The MSI VR One bucks that trend by essentially strapping a fully functional, high-end gaming rig to your back, allowing you to freely roam while gaming. Up until this point, we were privy to the specifications of the VR One, but we had no clue how much it would cost. Now, the numbers are in and they’re staggering. The MSI One... Read more...
So you bought a GeForce GTX 1080 or 1070 graphics card from EVGA with a fancy ACX 3.0 cooling solution and now you're worried it's going to burn up, is that it? Well turn that frown upside down. EVGA announced earlier this week that it was working on a VBIOS update that would instruct affected cards to more aggressively cool themselves, and that update is now available. The overheating issue came to light when several users posted some alarming temperature readings on Reddit and EVGA's support forum. In some cases, users posted pictures of purported charring on certain components, while others... Read more...
Over the weekend, we reported on a five-alarm issue involving certain NVIDIA GeForce 10-Series graphics cards from EVGA. Customers of affected cards have witnessed intermittent screen anomalies with their cards, which foreshadows impending doom. Others have witnessed their cards go up in flames, with the voltage regulator module (VRM) overheating due to improper cooling. Testing has shown that in some cases, parts of the PCB on affected cards has reached upwards of 107C. After issuing an initial statement on the matter when the first reports starting spreading, EVGA is back now with further information... Read more...
Following a rash of complaints about overheating graphics cards causing black screens and, in some cases, even burning up and dying, EVGA is extending an olive branch of sorts by offering owners of its FTW GeForce GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 graphics cards a free thermal pad. Affected owners would probably prefer EVGA acknowledge there's an issue, but so far it hasn't done so. There are multiple forum threads on EVGA's forum and Reddit filled with user accounts of FTW GTX 1070 and 1080 cards running uncomfortably hot. In one post, Reddit user "Mydst" says he saw a "bright orange flame" shoot out about... Read more...
Gears of War 4 is one of the most highly anticipated game launches coming this fall, and it will be available on both Xbox One and PC gaming platforms. The folks at NVIDIA are making it easier to obtain the game, as it will provide Gears of War 4 free for anyone that purchases a GeForce GTX 1080 or GeForce GTX 1070 graphics cards. Although Microsoft recommends at least a GeForce GTX 1060 for PC gamers looking to blast away their foes in Gears of War 4, NVIDIA reckons that the GeForce GTX 1070 and GeForce GTX 1080 will provide the best visual experience (hence their inclusion in this promotion).... Many of us were impressed with pint-sized performance of the AMD   Radeon R9 Nano, which packs quite a punch with an MSRP of $499 (although you can find it for as low as $460 if you look hard enough). But there’s a new performance-per-watt king in town with the arrival of Pascal, and NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1070 GPU is proving to be quite a formidable graphics powerhouse. To that end, Gigabyte has unveiled its new GeForce GTX 1070 Mini ITX OC, which packs all the power of NVIDIA’s latest GPU in a card that measures just 17cm. Gigabyte has designed a custom cooling system for the tiny graphics... Read more...
