Black Friday is still over three weeks away, but retailers are already showing their hand with respect to what deals they will have. So far, we've seen the tech goodies that Costco, Sam's Club, Kohl's and Target will have on the biggest shopping day of the year. Amazon doesn't want to be left out, but it isn't quite ready to give us a look at its hottest Black Friday deals. Instead, the company is giving us a rundown of its pre-Black Friday deals what will run from November 16th through November 22nd. Fans of the strange, yet classic flick 2001: A Space Odyssey will most certainly remember the rogue computer AI named HAL-900 that eventually decided to kill all humans. If you ever wanted to own a HAL-9000 (minus the homicidal insanity bit) this is your chance, thanks to a company called Master Replicas. As you might expect, there will be some compromises to hit that price point, including ditching stereo speakers for a mono speaker. When it comes to the display,... Read more...
Amazon is killing it this holiday shopping season, or so the online retailer claims. According to Amazon, Black Friday sales of Kindle e-readers and Fire tablets on the company's website have grown by leaps and bounds year-over-year. Specifically, Fire tablet sales were up three-fold on Black Friday compared to last year, while Kindle e-reader sales nearly quadrupled. "This holiday there are going to be a lot of customers opening up new Amazon devices," said Dave Limp, Senior Vice President, Amazon Devices. "We’re energized by the year over year growth of tablet and e-reader Black Friday sales on Amazon.com, plus the success of the new product categories we’ve launched this year."Indeed, we took... When you follow the consumer electronics industry at large, a few key moves generally lead to a few other moves. Case in point: when a major, hot-selling product sees an unexpected price drop amidst a great sales season, there's a great chance that a new iteration of said product is en route. That's likely what's happening with the Amazon Kindle Fire HD. The company just hacked a full $50 from the price of that slate, making the 7" version a palatable $160, and far more in a position to rival the Nexus 7. Of course, the existing Fire HD has been around a while, and Amazon has used September to launch new editions of its reading slate the past two years. If history continues to repeat itself,...
