We have long felt that Samsung's smartphones feature some of the best looking display panels in the business, and there is empirical evidence to suggest that our eyes have not been lying to us. The competition may be catching up, though. DisplayMate, perhaps the definitive source of display analysis, just gave the OnePlus 7 a rare A+ rating. There are a few things to unpack there. First of all, an A+ is the highest rating possible, and therefore is extremely tough to achieve—there is no A++ or any of that nonsense to water down the top grade. DisplayMate announced the OnePlus 7's newly earned grade on Twitter. DisplayMate's in-depth Lab Tests of the OnePlus 7 Pro OLED Display have just... Read more...
We have long felt that Samsung makes some of the best and most vibrant displays in the business, and have been particularly enamored with the Super AMOLED panels that it uses on its flagship phones. If you do not want to just take our word for it, though, check out DisplayMate's evaluation of the Galaxy S10. DisplayMate is one of the definitive sources of panel testing, and many sites (HotHardware included) use the company's tests when evaluating monitors. Following the launch of the Galaxy S10 series, the company subjected the regular Galaxy S10 to its battery of display benchmarks, which now includes new tests and even tougher grading systems than before. Even so, the Galaxy S10 receive DisplayMate's... Read more...
Samsung has done very well historically with DisplayMate ratings, with the Galaxy S8 receiving its highest ever rating at the time it launched. Earlier this year, the Galaxy S9 was crowned the best smartphone display in the world. DisplayMate's test report for the Galaxy Note 9 shows that the smartphone's display performance has reached record-setting "Outstanding" levels and set many new Display Performance Records. One of those records was for Absolute Color Accuracy scoring a "very impressive" 0.5 JNCD making it "Visually Indistinguishable From Perfect." DisplayMate wrote in the test results that the Note 9 display was "almost certainly considerably better than your existing Smartphone,... Read more...
It's to be expected; a next generation smartphone arrives and it blows its predecessor out of the water when it comes to features and specifications. Such was the case when the Samsung Galaxy S8 was released last year, and today, we're seeing the same with the Galaxy S9. DisplayMate had a chance to test out the Galaxy S9's Super AMOLED display, and it was deemed good enough to earn an "Excellent A+" grade. At first glance, one might assume that Samsung would simply hold the line and continue to use the same stellar Galaxy S8/S8+ Infinity Display panels on its latest flagships. However, Dr. Raymond Soneira, President of DisplayMate, says that Samsung has made improvements to both absolute picture... Read more...
We all know that Samsung makes some of the most gorgeous displays in the smartphone world. The South Korean electronics giant has long been praised for its Super AMOLED displays, and those accolades continue with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. There are some notable physical changes to the display this time around, with Samsung going with an 18.5:9 screen ratio, a nearly bezel-less design, and Gorilla Glass 5 to protect the display from damage. Sporting a resolution of 2960x1440 and peak brightness in excess of 1,000 nits, the Galaxy S8’s display can now represent 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut and it becomes the first smartphone to gain UHD Alliance for Mobile HDR Premium certification....
