ATMs can be a blessing and a curse to financial institutions. On the one hand, they can process financial transactions quickly, allowing the machines to serve more people over a span of time than a human teller. However, ATMs are often the target of hackers, many using skimmers to obtain debit card numbers for later nefarious spending sprees. Now, the Secret Service is warning that an existing type of ATM attack, jackpotting, is finally beginning to make its way to the United States. There are no boundaries to technology, which continues to reach into all facets of our daily regimen. The world will look and function decidedly different in 10 years compared to today, and while we don't know exactly what life will be like, we know that banking at ATMs is one area that will see plenty of change. Diebold, a security firm out of Ohio, is working on several next generation ATM technologies. Tomorrow's ATMs will sport tablet-like touchscreens, only unlike your iPad or Nexus 7, it will spit out money (assuming you have some in your bank account).
