Back when the iPhone X launched in 2017, Apple unveiled its AirPower wireless charging mat, which could top off an iPhone, AirPods and an Apple Watch all at the same time. Months passed, a year passed, and Apple eventually announced that AirPower had been canceled due to engineering challenges. Apple might not have its own multi-device wireless charging solution in place, but it is partnering with Mohpie to make Qi wireless charging mats widely available to customers. The company announced that two of Mophie's latest wireless chargers will be available: one that can charge two devices at once, and one that can charge three at a time. The first device is the Dual Wireless Charging Pad, which... Read more...
It’s not often that we’re witness to vaporware products from Apple, but AirPower definitely fit that category. The wireless accessory – which was supposed to charge an iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch simultaneously -- was first announced alongside the iPhone X way back in September 2017, and was supposed to launch in 2018. However, 2018 came and went with no sign of the device. Today, Apple confirmed what many thought was coming anyway: AirPower has been canceled. The Cupertino, California-based company made the announcement in a statement to TechCrunch, which reads: After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have... Had things gone they way there were supposed to, Apple would have launched its own wireless charging mat called AirPower in 2018. However, here we are getting ready to close out the first quarter of 2019, and Apple still has not released the AirPower mat. It is at least in sight, though, and could be launching soon if the iOS 12.2 beta is any indication. The promise of the AirPower mat is that its wide stance allows it to wirelessly charge numerous compatible Apple gadgets at the same time. "The new Apple-designed AirPower mat, coming in 2018, can charge iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods simultaneously," Apple stated in a news release announcing the iPhone X. That would be a huge convenience to... Read more...
Apple enters 2019 with a market capitalization of nearly $750 billion, and while that's not as high as a few months ago, few companies would opt not to trade places with the Cupertino outfit. One of the keys to Apple's ongoing success is its consistency. Unfortunately for Apple. it also enters 2019 with a blemish on its track record, which is having missed its launch time frame for the AirPower, a wireless charging pad for multiple mobile gadgets. Had things gone to plan, Apple would have launched its AirPower accessory sometime in 2018. Apple SVP Phil Schiller said as much during an iPhone X event in September 2017. "We hope people love it, that it encourages others to create more advanced solutions... Read more...
Apple announced the AirPower wireless charting mat in 2017 when it introduced the iPhone X. At the time, the company touted its ability to simultaneously charge an iPhone, the Apple Watch and AirPods. While compatible with the Qi wireless standard, it also had some of Apple’s own proprietary secret sauce added to optimize performance with its products. However, as we strolled further into 2018, there was still no official word from Apple on AirPower or when it would be released. During its iPhone/Apple Watch event held last week at the Spaceship campus, Apple made nary a mention of AirPower. In fact, the company did its best to scrub nearly every mention of... Read more...
When Apple announced the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X back in fall 2017, it also revealed its so-called “AirPower” wireless charging mat. Apple originally said that the device would ship in 2018, but what we didn’t know at the time is that it would be a late 2018 release. According to a new report, AirPower won’t be released until September which is one year from its original announcement. AirPower allows you to recharge three completely different types of Apple mobile devices simultaneously. The charging mat can accommodate and “wirelessly” charge an iPhone 8/iPhone 8 Plus/iPhone X, Apple Watch and AirPods charging case all at once. Apple... Read more...
When it comes to Apple's latest flagship smartphone, the iPhone X, it feels like in many respects, the company is catching up to features that have long been featured on Android devices. Minimal display bezels, OLED display panels and wireless charging have all been in the Android domain for a few generations (or more). One particular feature that is just now being exploited by the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X is wireless charging. Apple went with the Qi wireless standard when it comes to wireless (inductive) charging, but only supports 5W charging in the most current public builds of iOS 11. That will change, however, with the arrival of iOS 11.2. MacRumors was able to confirm via representatives... Read more...
