AMD initially announced its 2nd Generation Ryzen desktop processors back at CES earlier this year. Our coverage of the event is available for you here, but to quickly recap, 2nd Generation Ryzen processors are based on a refined update to the Zen architecture, dubbed Zen+, that offers higher clocks, lower latencies, and a more intelligent Precision Boost 2 algorithm that improves performance, system responsiveness, and power efficiency characteristics. The chips are also manufactured using a more advanced process, however, they still leverage the existing AM4 infrastructure and are compatible with... Read more...
AMD Ryzen fans looking forward to getting hands on a Second Gen Ryzen chip and needing a new motherboard to strap it onto will have a trio of slick new mainboards from ASUS apparently, and those boards have had their specs leaked rather extensively. In about a month, AMD will release its second generation Ryzen lineup with a handful of new processors based on its 12-nanometer Zen+ architecture, otherwise known as Pinnacle Ridge. Leading up to the launch, the upcoming Ryzen 7 2700X has been spotted in numerous leaks, the latest of which is an Amazon listing. Same goes for a few other second generation Ryzen chips. If the listings are accurate, (or were accurate, since they've been pulled offline), we know what kind of specs to expect. Starting at the top, the Ryzen 7 2700X (YD270XBGAFBOX) is an 8-core/16-thread processor with a 3.7GHz base... Read more...
Late last week, we got a whiff of AMD's new high-end mainstream processor: the Ryzen 7 2700X, which is based off 12nm Zen+ architecture. Today, a new leak is giving us a further look at the processor complete with benchmarks. The processor is simply listed as a Ryzen 7 2000 Series by SiSoft SANDRA. The base clock for the processor checks in at 3.7GHz, but the boost clock is shown at a lofty 4.35GHz. For comparison, the Ryzen 7 2700X that we spied last week featured a base clock of 3.7GHz, a turbo clock of 4.1GHz, with a maximum clock of 4.2GHz using XFR 2.0 (eXtended Frequency Range). Given the... Read more...
One of AMD's upcoming processors has been spotted in the wild, and it is looking like a worthy successor to the company's existing lineup.
