Xiaomi Mi AirDots Youth Edition Earbuds Ditch The Wires Priced At $30

Apple’s AirPods wireless earphones are popular with lots of Apple fans, but the problem is that they are quite expensive. Xiaomi has unveiled a set of earbuds that look very similar to the Apple AirPods but are much cheaper. They are called the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Youth Edition, are completely wireless, and include a charging case. The AirDots weigh in at 4.2 grams making them extremely lightweight contributing to comfort when in the ears.

The speakers inside the small earphones are 7.2mm units and promise to produce deep bass and high-quality audio. Xiaomi also designed the AirDots Youth Edition with an external touch zone on the outside of the earbuds for controlling a smartphone. That touch zone allows users to control playback with pause and play each taking a single touch, activating an AI assistant with two touches, and answering or ending calls with a single touch.

Wireless connectivity with the smartphone is achieved with Bluetooth 5.0; the latest Bluetooth standard supports lower power consumption, longer operating range, and is less susceptible to interference from other wireless signals. Bluetooth 5.0 also allows for clearer calls and faster connection to a smartphone. The internal battery inside the headphones is good for four hours of use per charge in stereo mode or five hours in mono mode; the included wireless charging case extends runtime to 12 hours. Xiaomi Mi AirDots Youth Edition launched in China at 199 Yuan, which is about $29. There is no indication that the AirDots will launch outside of China right now.

Normally when we talk about Xiaomi, we are talking about new smartphones. In late October, Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix 3 with 10GB of RAM and a bezel-free screen with no notch and optional 5G. Xiaomi ditched the notch by using a camera that pops up behind the screen with a slider design.
