Vaporware '06: Return of the King

Wired has their Vaporware '06 awards on-line today, and you'll never guess what makes its triumphant return to the top of the charts.  Here's a hint, the main character first appeared in an Apogee title way back in 1991...

"Pull back the red curtain and dim the lights. It's the 9th annual presentation of the Wired News Vaporware Awards, our ode to the year's top technology products promised, hyped and scheduled, but not delivered."

Still not sure?  Here's another hint.  It's a game that was first demoed in 1997.  And that's all I'm telling you.
