Those looking to preorder the SNES Classic from Toys R Us are going to have to look elsewhere according to a tweet from the retailer. The company confirmed this week that it will not be taking online preorders for the console, and that the only way to get one will be to get your butt down to an actual brick and mortar location and stand in line like a rabid fanboy (or fangirl).
The SNES Mini will be available in our stores on 9/29. There will be no pre-orders for this item. TY!— ToysRUs (@ToysRUs) August 23, 2017
On the one hand, it’s frustrating for those that might not have a Toys R Us within driving distance of their home or simply like the convenience factor of shopping online. On the other hand, you’re at least guaranteed to get your hands on a console if you go the brick and mortar route — as long as you get to the store early enough.
We can’t say that there’s a right or a wrong choice for a retailer in this situation, but Nintendo has at least promised to ensure that there will be greater supplies of the SNES Classic compared to its NES Classic predecessor. “We aren’t providing specific numbers, but we will produce significantly more units of Super NES Classic Edition than we did of NES Classic Edition,” said Nintendo in a statement shortly after the SNES Classic was announced.
The SNES Classic will be priced at $79.99 and includes the 21 classic gaming titles listed below:
- Contra III: The Alien Wars
- Donkey Kong Country
- Final Fantasy III
- Kirby Super Star
- Kirby’s Dream Course
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
- Mega Man X
- Secret of Mana
- Star Fox
- Star Fox 2
- Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
- Super Castlevania IV
- Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts
- Super Mario Kart
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
- Super Mario World
- Super Metroid
- Super Punch-Out!!
- Yoshi’s Island
The console will ship with two wired controllers, an HDMI able, a USB charging cable and an AC adapter.
