T-Mobile Sends OTA Android 5.0 Lollipop Update To Samsung Galaxy S5
There's good news today for those of you rocking a Samsung Galaxy S5 on T-Mobile's network. The spunky wireless carrier has begun pushing out an over-the-air (OTA) update to Android 5.0 Lollipop , which is also available through Samsung Kies. That means you no longer have to give your Verizon brethren the stink-eye, who have been running Lollipop for a couple of weeks now.
It's a roughly 900MB package, so do yourself a solid and make sure you're on a fast and reliable Wi-Fi connection (having a charging cable handy wouldn't be a bad idea, either). If you're not seeing the update, you can try forcing the issue by navigating to Settings > About phone > Software updates. Once you get it, expect a similar experience to other versions of the S5, like Google's Material Design, interactive lockscreen notifications, and so forth, SamMobile says.
Bringing Lollipop to Galaxy S5 owners will help swell the OS's ranks. According to the Android Developers Dashboard, Lollipop is present on less than 2 percent of all Android devices, though that's better than a month or so ago when there were so few Lollipop devices that it didn't even warrant a ranking.
Of course, all eyes in the Samsung camp are now focused on the forthcoming Galaxy S6. If all the leaks and rumors are true, it will measure just 6.9mm thick, have a wraparound edge display on at least one side, and will be powered by Samsung's own Exynos 7 Octa System-on-Chip (SoC).
