SteelSeries Unveils $260 Aeon Pro Controller With Instant Xbox & PC Switching
SteelSeries has stepped into the luxury gamepad market with the Aeon Pro controller, a high-end option tailored specifically for gamers who frequently switch between PC and Xbox platforms, and perhaps more importantly, have money to blow. Priced at a steep $260, it is no doubt one of the most feature-packed gamepads available, but the pricing puts well above Microsoft's Elite Series 2 controller (on sale for $184.78 at Amazon).
The Aeon Pro features a patent-pending QuickSwitch dock that has dual USB-C inputs, allowing players to connect to an Xbox and a PC at the same time; users can quickly switch between platforms with the single button press, so say goodbye to the tediousness of swapping receivers or repairing Bluetooth connections (sigh, first-world problems). The controller also boasts an OLED Smart Display that allows users to swap profiles, check battery levels, or remap controls directly from the unit without opening external software.
We do appreciate the Infinite Power System that utilizes a dual hot-swappable battery setup. One battery powers the gamepad while the second charges inside the base station. It's a nice all-in-one solution.
SteelSeries equips the controller with contactless Hall effect thumbsticks, eliminating the risk of stick drift, while microswitches are embedded across 18 distinct buttons to deliver snappy, tactile feedback. The triggers rock quick-flip travel toggles, switching between a full-range pull for driving games and ultra-fast hair-trigger modes for FPSes.
On the back, four ergonomic paddles provide remappable inputs, complemented by a wrap-around textured grip and modular thumbstick tops that let players swap between concave, convex, standard, or lengthened sticks.
For PC users, the device boasts a 1,000Hz polling rate alongside complete customization via the SteelSeries GG software suite. Players can dive into deep tuning options, adjusting dead zones, stick sensitivity curves, and custom lighting profiles.
Still, the $260 price tag positions it well above the likes of the Xbox Elite Series 2 and Razer Wolverine V3, although some may justify the purchase if the combination of hot-swappable power and seamless multi-device switching in a single controller setup is truly important to their gaming experience. The Aeon Pro is currently available worldwide in both black and white colorways.
