Sprint Offers Free* Year Of Unlimited Service For Leaving Your Wireless Carrier

When you’re the last place wireless carrier in the United States, and have a reputation for spotty coverage and service quality, you need to make some noise in order to get noticed. That’s just what Sprint is doing with its latest promotion, which provides one year “free” of unlimited service if you switch from your current wireless carrier.

We put free in quotes, because you know that there’s rarely a completely free lunch when it comes to wireless carriers. You will still be responsible for paying for the SIM ($2.99), shipping and handling charges for the SIM (a rather ridiculous $10) plus taxes and fees associated with the monthly unlimited plan pricing. Your other out-of-pocket costs (with regards to service) comes from a $30 activation fee, but that is refunded back to you over the course of two billing cycles.

There’s also another gotcha; if you don’t sign up for both AutoPay and eBilling you will be hit with a $7.99 charge for each month that you retain service. Pay close attention to Sprint’s terms and conditions to make sure that there aren’t any other areas where you could be open to fleecing.

Oh, and did we mention that you have to bring your smartphone with you, and it must be owned outright? Sprint isn’t prepared to give you a free year of service and pay off the remaining balance on your smartphone. The following devices are support according to Sprint:

  • Apple iPhone 5C (Verizon only), Apple iPhone 5S (Verizon only), Apple iPhone 6, Apple iPhone 6 Plus, Apple iPhone 6S, Apple iPhone 6S Plus, Apple iPhone 7 (Verizon only), Apple iPhone 7 Plus (Verizon only), Apple iPhone SE
  • Google Nexus 5 (Verizon only), Google Nexus 5X, Google Nexus 6, Google Nexus 6P, Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL
  • Motorola E4, Motorola Z2 Play, Motorola G4, Motorola G4 Play, Motorola G4 Plus, Motorola G5 Plus, Motorola X Pure Edition
  • Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Special Edition, Samsung Galaxy S7 Special Edition, Samsung Galaxy S8 Special Edition, Samsung Galaxy S8+ Special Edition

So, what exactly are you getting with this one year of “free” unlimited service? Well, you’ll receive unlimited talk, text, and data, Full HD video streaming, music streaming (1.5 Mbps), game streaming (8M bps), and 10GB of LTE mobile hotspot data.

According to Sprint, this offer will save you $960 over the course of a year compared to Verizon with a single line, or $1,680 with two lines. If you need three or four lines, you’ll save $1,920 and $2,160 respectively compared to Verizon.

If you’ve read through all of this and the free offer still seems appealing to you, it’s available between now and June 30th. The free year of service lasts through July 31st, 2018.
