Samsung Launches Galaxy Tab 3 Kids Edition
Samsung has one on tap. It's called the Galaxy Tab 3 Kids, a tablet built specifically for young ones with educational tools and safety features already baked in.
"It’s no secret that kids are using technology more than ever before," said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics. "We saw an opportunity to create a device just for kids that provides them with an intuitive, fun and kid-friendly user experience filled with rich, interactive and educational content that parents will love."
The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids is a 7-inch slate with a 1024x600 resolution, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (expandable via a microSD card slot), 3MP rear-facing camera, 1.3MP front-facing camera, 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0 port, Android 4.1, and a Li-ion 4,000 mAh battery.
That's not a bad spec sheet for a tablet aimed at kids. Equally important to the internal specs is the outer casing featuring a kid-friendly grip, multiple stand options, and protection from drops. Finally, the tablet boasts a Time Management feature that allows parents to set specific time periods for use. When the time expires, a password is then required to use the device.
The Galaxy Tab Kids will be available in Korea in early September, followed by China, Europe, U.S., Africa, South America, and South East Asia. No word yet on price.
