Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 Benchmark Leak Shows Impending AI Prowess
To that end, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8150 is shaping up to be an AI powerhouse, at least according to leaked numbers that have shown up at AI-Benchmark. The AI-Benchmark site notes the benchmark consists of 9 Computer Vision AI tasks performed by 9 separate Neural Networks that are running on smartphones currently. The tasks include Object Recognition and Classification, Facial Recognition, Image Deblurring, Image Super-Resolution, Semantic Image Segmentation, and Photo Enhancement.
For reference, a OnePlus 6 with this year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 manages an AI score of 12274, while the neural processing unit (NPU) accompanying the brand new 7nm Kirin 980 processor in the Huawei Mate 20 Pro scores 12026.
As for the Snapdragon 8150 Dev Platform, it crushes all challengers with an AI score of 22082. Combining this result with the leaked AnTuTu benchmark score of 362,292 shows that Qualcomm’s next generation mobile SoC is going to be tough to beat in 2019.
According to previous reports, the Snapdragon 8150 will have a peculiar octa-core configuration: 1+3+4. There will be just a single high-performance core which will be accompanied by three general purpose cores. There will also be four low-performance cores to handle menial tasks.
Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8150 will be built on a 7nm process, which puts it in the same company as Huawei's Kirin 980 along with Apple's A12 and A12X used in the iPhone XS/XS Max/XR and iPad Pro.
