This Ultra Pixel Premium Flagship Just Might Be Google's Answer To The Apple iPhone X

While the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are no doubt high-end smartphones, it appears that Google may be going the Apple route this generation. Just as the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus are refinements of last year's models, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL appear (on the surface) to be an evolution of their predecessors. And just like the iPhone X's position at the top of the Apple smartphone totem pole, it looks as though the rumored Ultra Pixel could serve in this capacity for Google.

Of course, we need to take this information with a huge grain of salt. Images of the alleged Ultra Pixel come from YouTuber Arun Maini, who operates the Mrwhosetheboss channel. According to Maini, the images came from an anonymous source, which obtained them from an internal Google slide.

If this leak is accurate, we have to wonder why we aren't seeing a completely bezel-free design. Instead, what we are spying is a device that still seems to have bezels that are a bit larger than what you'd see with a Galaxy S8/Galaxy S8+ or an iPhone X. With that being said, Maini claims that the Ultra Pixel features dual cameras on the back (unlike the Pixel 2 XL) and a "new kind of fingerprint scanner."

Whatever the case, there's definitely room in Google's smartphone lineup to accommodate an Ultra Pixel. The Pixel 2 reportedly will be priced at $649 and $749 respectively for 64GB and 128GB SKUs. Likewise, the Pixel 2 XL will also be available in 64GB and 128GB capacities, priced at $849 and $949 respectively. That could lead to an Ultra Pixel with a starting price of $949 to $999, with the latter being the entry point for the iPhone X.
