OCZ Ships Pricey Colossus Desktop SSDs In 128GB To 1TB Sizes
OCZ's Colossus has been looming in our "must-have" list for months. We actually saw one in the flesh this past summer, and we heard in August that it would "soon" be shipping in sizes ranging from 128GB to 1TB. With Fusion-io firmly in the consumer business now, it's safe to say that OCZ is probably feeling the pressure with competition nearby. Now, the company is reporting that its high performance desktop replacement drive is now shipping, though Amazon still has it listed with a 1+ month wait. We're guessing the retailer just hasn't received the memo (or their first batch), but it looks like resellers should have stock soon to sell to those with enough cash.
The Colossus SSD is available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB solutions to accommodate a broader spectrum of applications than current 2.5” SSD products; the 3.5” housing is a straight drop in for many existing rack systems. Pricing details aren't mentioned, but from what we've seen on Amazon, they won't be for the "average Joe." Not like you'd expect anything differently from a product with "SSD" in the model name though, huh?
