Motorola Reportedly Developing 10" Tablet For Use With Verizon's FiOS TV Service
The 10" tablet, which doesn't yet have a public name, would be based around Google's Android operating system. The real kicker, however, is that it would work seamlessly with Verizon's FiOS TV and Internet offerings, enabling users to watch television right on the screen. It would also reportedly support Flash (thus using Android 2.2), and it could launch as early as this Fall in the U.S.
At a glance, this definitely sounds good. But choosing Verizon as a television partner seems like a strange move. FiOS is only available in a handful of areas in only a select few U.S. states, and the company has more or less stated that they are halting any further FiOS expansion. So right away, Motorola would be limiting their buyer pool rather significantly. But it's possible that none of the major cable carriers wanted to sign up for a partnership. Either way, we should know soon enough what's true and what's not behind all of this.
