Minecraft Super Duper Graphics Pack Abruptly Canceled Due To Technical Hurdles
The devs behind the incredibly popular game, Minecraft, have announced bad news about a long-anticipated update for the game. The Super Duper Graphics Pack that was promised years ago has been canceled. The first we heard of Super Duper was during E3 2017, and in November of 2017, the devs promised that Super Duper would land in 2018.
That launch never happened, and now Minecraft devs are canceling the graphics pack altogether. The devs said that they realize the cancellation of the graphics package will be a disappointment to some fans, but it was shelved due to poor performance.
Devs say they weren't happy with the way the Super Duper Graphics Pack performed across devices. Development on the Super Duper Graphics Pack has been halted, but the team is looking into other ways for fans to experience Minecraft with a new look.
The Super Duper pack was supposed to improve visuals by adding better lighting and and increased visual fidelity to the game. While there are third-party mods out there that will improve the visuals of the game, the blocky old-school graphics are just fine for many fans of the game.
In 2017 when the Super Duper update was delayed, Minecraft did launch the Update Aquatic. In May, Minecraft celebrated a decade of blocky fun with a browser-based version of the original game for fans to check out. Minecraft celebrated its tenth birthday on May 17, 2019.
