Microsoft Rolls Out Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 Service Pack 2 with Security, Stability, and Performance Updates
"SP2 provides key updates and fixes across our servers, services and applications including security, stability, and performance enhancements and provides better compatibility with Windows 8, Internet Explorer 10, Office 2013, and SharePoint 2013," Microsoft stated in a blog post.
The beta version of SP2 for Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 was released back in April, so it's taken Microsoft a few months to clean up the code and get it ready for prime time. It's the first major update to the suite in about two years and perhaps the last. Going forward, Microsoft is pushing its Office 365 platform pretty hard. The advantage of a cloud-based subscription service is that you're always running the latest version with all pertinent updates.
