Microsoft Delays Windows 10-Infused Surface Hubs Until January 2016
If you’re a business that was excited about the prospects of securing one of Microsoft’s impressive new Surface Hubs, we’ve got a bit of bad news to deliver. One month ago, Microsoft announced that it was delaying shipments for the collaboration tool despite the fact that pre-orders had opened up on July 1st.
Microsoft didn’t give an exact time frame for when shipments would actually commence, simply noting that it was tuning the “manufacturing process to prepare for production at broader scale” and that the company was adjusting its “product roll-out schedule to ensure we deliver a great customer experience and set our partners up for success.”
Now we have a somewhat solid timeframe for when the large-screen devices will actually ship, and it’s nearly five months away: January 2016. An earlier report indicated that Microsoft had provided a concrete shipping date of January 1st, 2016, but the folks in Redmond appear to have already changed their mind. The language on the recently updated Surface blog post has now been changed to state “Surface Hub devices will begin shipping in January 2016,” which gives Microsoft even more leeway when it comes to Surface Hub shipments.
The Surface Hub is a massive, touch-screen based (supports 100 points of touch) presentation tool that is available in 55-inch (1920x1080) and 84-inch (4K) screen sizes. The Surface Hubs are also fully functional Windows 10 PCs equipped with fourth generation Intel Core processors, 8GB of RAM, integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 (NVIDIA Quadro K2200 on the 84-inch model), 128GB SSDs and multiple HD cameras.
The 55-inch Surface Hub has a retail price of $6,999, while the larger and more feature-packed 84-inch Surface Hub is priced at a bank account busting $19,999.
