Maingear's Redesigned Notebooks are Ready to Roll with Ivy Bridge

Intel's mobile Ivy Bridge chipset has arrived, and it should come as no surprise that boutique system builder Maingear is ready to make a run at the new platform. Three of Maingear's popular notebook lines have been upgraded to support Intel's 3rd generation Core processors, including the 15.6-inch ALT and 15.6-inch and 17-inch eX-L series, all of which also boast refined designs and new screen options.

Working our way from the bottom, the ALT 15 is a hybrid notebook with a 15.6-inch display and either a 1366x768 screen resolution or a Full HD 1920x1080 panel. These can be configured with up to an Intel Core i7 2860QM processor, up to 16GB of DDR3-1333/1600 memory, up to a 600GB solid state drive or 750GB hybrid solid state hard drive, Blu-ray reader or DVD burner, 9-in-1 card reader, and other odds and ends. Pricing starts at $979.

Sitting one rung higher is the eX-L 15. It features a 1920x1080 panel, up to an Intel Core i7 2960XM processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M (Stock) or 675M (Super Stock) graphics, up to 32GB of DDR3-1600 or up to 16GB of DDR3-1866 memory, the same storage and optical options as the ALT 15, and plenty of amenities, such as HDMI, USB 3.0, built-in speakers made by Onkyo, and more. Pricing starts at $1,399 for a Stock build or $1,499 for a Super Stock option.

Finally, there's the eX-L 17, essentially a bigger version of the eX-L 15 with many of the same features and options, but with a larger size screen. Pricing starts at $1,599.
