LG V40 ThinQ Rumored To Launch In October With Super Thin Bezels, Tri-Camera Setup

It looks as though LG wants you to ThinQ about purchasing another flagship smartphone, and is preparing for the release of the V40 ThinQ. This new high-end smartphone would serve as the follow-up to the V30 that we reviewed back in late October and the V30S ThinQ.

What's interesting about the V40 ThinQ is that it will reportedly have a total of five cameras onboard. There will be two cameras up front that will aide in 3D facial recognition along with a rare triple-camera setup on the back. This arrangement will allegedly consist of 20MP, 16MP and 13MP cameras that will handle ultra-wide-angle, wide-angle and telephoto shooting.

According to ETNews, LG doesn't want the V40 ThinQ to be overshadowed by the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 -- which is launching in early August -- so the smartphone will instead reportedly launch in early October. However, that timeframe will likely see LG's release butting up against Google's Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.

Not much else is known about the flagship smartphone at this time, but it's pretty much a given that it will ship with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 4GB to 6GB of RAM in tow. LG isn't exactly known for keeping up-to-date with Android releases, so it's likely that it will ship out of the box with Android 8.1 Oreo rather than Android P (which should be rolling out around the same time as the V40 ThinQ).

If we're using the V30 S ThinQ as a guide, expect a display measuring around 6 inches and a QHD+ resolution (2880x1440). We wouldn't mind seeing the V30's 3,300 mAh battery grow closer to 4,000 mAh (like the Galaxy Note 9) and we're almost certain that LG's famed Hi-Fi Quad DAC will be onboard.

What remains to be seen is if LG will attempt to further reduce the display bezels or opt for an in-display fingerprint sensor (as we've seen on smartphones from Vivo). The former is quite likely, but the latter may be too much to ask for LG, which is typically on the conservative side for a smartphone OEM.
