Lenovo's All-New ThinkBook S Laptops Outed With Intel Whiskey Lake And AMD Radeon 540X
Although we're used to see Lenovo laptops marketed under the ThinkPad and IdeaPad brands, it looks as though the company is introducing a new ThinkBook S family. The notebooks were spotted in China at CITE 2019, and will may eventually be sold in the United States.
The new ThinkBook S family will be available in 13.3-inch (S540-13-IWL) or 14.1-inch (S540-14-IWL) display sizes. The notebooks will be available with Intel's 8th generation Whiskey Lake-U processors, with top-end configurations getting the Core i7-8565U. Up to 16GB of RAM can be configured along with up to a 512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. If you're not content with the onboard Intel IGP, Lenovo provides an optional AMD Radeon 540X discrete GPU.
Both ThinkBook S laptops come equipped with a Full HD display, which is framed by relatively thin bezels along the sides and the top. There's a much larger bezel, however, below the display. Lenovo has mounted a 720p webcam into the top bezel, and it can be covered with an integrated privacy shutter if you're paranoid about someone spying you.
It's also reported that the 13- and 14-inch ThinkBook S laptops will weigh in at just under 3 pounds and 3.3 pounds respectively. Those are respectable figures for these notebooks, which have an aluminum unibody chassis design. Other features include Windows Hello support, three USB-A ports, a single USB-C port, HDMI-out and Harman Kardon-tuned speakers.
A couple of retailers have already listed the 13-inch ThinkBook S online, with a starting price of €963, or around $1,080. The launch date for Europe is listed as May 25th, but there's no word on when (or if) the laptops will arrive stateside.
