Intel Launches Optane SSD 905P Ultra-Fast Storage Family In 480GB And 960GB Capacities
The high-end Optane SSD 905P 960GB is available in a Half Height Half Length (HHHL) PCIe add-in form-factor. On the other hand, the Optane SSD 905P 480GB is only available in a 2.5-inch form-factor with U.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 interface. And as you might expect, both SSDs employ Intel 3D XPoint memory technology to deliver impressive performance across the board compared to most traditional SSDs.
When it comes to sustained reads and writes, they come in at 2,600MB/sec and 2,200MB/sec respectively. With respect to random reads and writes, both 905P models are rated at 575K IOPS and 550K IOPS respectively. All of these numbers represent slight improvement over the existing Optane SSD 900P family, which was just introduced in October 2017 (see our review here).
Compared to the Optane SSD 900P 480GB, power consumption is down slightly across the board for the Optane SSD 905P 480GB. However, operating temperatures (maximum) have been raised from 70 to 80 degrees Celsius. Both SSDs have a MTBF of 1.6 million hours and have an endurance rating of 10 drive writes per day (DWPD). And both of course come backed by a 5-year warranty.
Intel is aimed the Optane SSD 905P family professionals, content creators and of course enthusiasts. Although pricing hasn't been announced for either SKU, they will begin shipping in select Dell systems starting this week. In addition, a Special Edition version of the Akitio Node Lite Thunderbolt 3 storage solution will also feature the SSDs.
We should also mention that we currently have samples of the Intel Optane SSD 905P family on our workbench, so stay tuned for our comprehensive review...
