Intel 9th Gen Core i7-9700K With Z390 Motherboard Benchmarks Leak, Hyper-Threading Is A No-Show

Intel Processor
There may not be many surprises when Intel finally gets around to rolling out its 9th generation Core processor lineup. Numerous leaks and rumors have provided us with plenty of details to analyze, and while we always have to take those sort of things with a grain of salt, the pre-release information floating around the web has been fairly consistent. The latest leak provides some more benchmarking results for the Core i7-9700K and reinforces the rumor that Hyper Threading may not be a part of this particular SKU.

In case you haven't been following the rumor trail, the Core i7-9700K is one of a handful of 9th generation Core processors that Intel is readying. These new chips are built on a 14 nanometer++ manufacturing process and are dubbed Coffee Lake Refresh. Through some official documentation that was discovered on Intel's website a few weeks ago, the company essentially confirmed several new 9th gen SKUs. Here's what was revealed by Intel:
  • Core i3-9000
  • Core i3-9100
  • Core i5-9400
  • Core i5-9400T
  • Core i5-9500
  • Core i5-9600
  • Core i5-9600K
There was no mention of the Core i7-9700K or Core i9-9900K, but there have been plenty of  appearances around the web. The Core i7-9700K is purportedly an 8-core processor clocked at 3.6GHz, with a 4.6GHz all-core boost and 4.9GHz single-core boost. It also has 12MB of L3 cache and a 95W TDP.

What's interesting is that it's said to not support Hyper Threading, which would be unusual for a Core i7 part. Nevertheless, the latest leak reinforces the rumor. The chip supposedly made an appearance at a Spanish-language website, where it was benchmark in an upcoming Z390 Express chipset motherboard.

The test bed also consisted of an untold amount of G.Skill TridentZ DDR4-3600 RAM and MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming Z. Here's are some of the benchmark results:

Hi the source link in the via field to browse through several more benchmark charts. You'll find that the Core i7-9700K came out on top in most of the benchmarks, though not across the board—AMD's Ryzen 7 2700X still outperformed Intel's 8-core chip in a handful of benchmarks, as shown in the samples above.

The chip (presumably an engineering sample) also was able to hit a 5GHz overclock. That's a modest bump, and hopefully by the time the CPU releases, we'll see better results. Let's also not forget that it's supposedly running in a Z390 motherboard that might need be polished, too. In a previous leak, the Core i7-9700K was purportedly shown running at 5.5GHz, in a Z370 motherboard.

Word on the web is that Intel will unveil its 9th generation Core lineup next month.
