HTC's Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Schedule Leaked
Wondering about the status of your Android 5.0 Lollipop update? And do you own an HTC device? If you can answer "Yes" to both questions, then we have answers. Here's the good news -- those of your rocking an HTC One (M7 or M8) can expect to receive an over-the-air (OTA) update to Lollipop sometime this month, if not already.
The HTC One M8 started receiving the update earlier this week, after already rolling out to Google Play Edition models last month. The Developer Edition is also starting unwrap Lollipop, and so are unlocked M8 models.
If you own the M7 version (the original One from 2013), you're next in line, according to a leaked roadmap that popped up in a Vietnamese forum. The roadmap, if accurate, lays out HTC's planned Lollipop schedule for the next several months.
Looking at February, the HTC One E8 will be the first to receive an update to Android 5.0, followed by the Desire EYE, One M8 EYE, and Butterfly 2.
Things really pick up in March, which will see Lollipop roll out to the HTC One Max, M7 Dual SIM, Desire 816, Desire 820u, One M8 Mini, E8 (China), and M8 Eye (China).
Finally, the roadmap lists a fourth time frame for March and April combined. Devices slotted into the final round include the One M8 Mini #UL, Desire 610, Desire 820s, Desire 510, and One Mini.
This is good news for HTC owners and the Android ecosystem in general. As it stands, Android 5.0 Lollipop is only installed on 0.36 percent of Android devices two months after its launch, according to Google's Android Developers Dashboard. Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.x through 4.3) claims the most installs at 46 percent, followed by KitKat (Android 4.4) at 39.1 percent.
