HTC One (M8) Lollipop Update Hits Airwaves For Developer, Unlocked Editions

Back in early November, HTC made its intentions known that it would begin updating its flagship One (M8) smartphone to Android 5.0 Lollipop by early February; further confirmation of that rollout schedule came last week. Mo Versi, HTC’s VP of Product Management, confirmed last night via Twitter that some versions of the One (M8) are actually receiving Lollipop a little ahead of schedule, with the OTA updates already hitting Unlocked and Developer editions:

The Lollipop update weighs in a 584MB, and HTC’s official build number for the release is 4.16.1540.8. As for what’s included in the official update, here’s the rundown courtesy of Android Central:

  • Android 5.0 Lollipop update
  • Lock screen and notification: New Lollipop UI style with enhanced privacy features
  • Recent apps: Supporting multiple pages
  • Addition of search function within settings

While customers with Unlocked and Developer editions of the One (M8) can definitely jump for joy over this announcement, those with carrier-branded smartphones will still have to wait a little while longer before they can suck on some sweet Lollipop goodness.
