When asked if HP was working on a smartphone, she answered, “The answer is yes but I cannot give a timetable. It would be silly if we say no. HP has to be in the game.” That’s about as unequivocal an answer as you can get.

Yin also stated that HP was focusing hard on tablet PCs, notebooks, and AIOs.
HP has some hard work ahead of it; although the smartphone market is growing at a breakneck pace, the entrenched behemoths of Apple and Samsung will (and have, so far) make market penetration by competitors difficult.
HP is well aware of that, and appears to be planning something unique to gain a foothold. “Being late you have to create a different set of proposition,” Yin said. “There are still things that can be done. Its not late. When HP has a smartphone, it will give a differentiated experience."
