Google Is Giving Away Up To $5 In Play Store Credits, Here's How To See If You're Eligible

Who doesn’t love free credits? Google is currently offering $1, $2, $3 or $5 credits to some Play Store users. You may not be able to “make it rain”, but you may be able to nab an app you have been eyeing.

Google appears to be offering a $2 credit to consumers who purchased a Pixel 3 or 3 XL. It also seems to be offering $1, $3, or $5 credits to other users, but it is unclear why. If you have received a credit, you will see a blue banner with an opened present illustration. You will need to scroll down past the first few sections of app recommendations to find the banner. Once you have clicked on the banner, simply tap “confirm” to receive your free credits. You may then use the free credits immediately.

Of course, there is a little bit of a catch. If you received the $2 credit, you will need to redeem it through the Play Store on your Pixel. The credits expire November 30, 2018 and are good for any app or game. If you received one of the other credits, you have until November 2020 to redeem it. You cannot use these credits for in-app subscriptions. It also appears that the credits are only available to customers in the United States.

Google Play has thrown a handful of perks to its users over the last few months. In October, Google announced that many purchased movies would be upgraded to 4K for free. The prices for a number of 4K movies also dropped from $30 USD to $20.

Rumor has it that Google may also be preparing a monthly subscription service. Google has not officially announced the service, but it seems to be toying with the idea. XDA 'Recognized Developer' Kieron Quinn found a reference to a “Play Pass” in an APK and Google Opinion Rewards asked several users whether they would be interested in such a service. The “pass” would likely include access to both games and apps for a monthly fee. Perhaps the free Google Play credits are tied to an upcoming announcement.
