Dell XPS 15 2-In-1 Pairs Intel 8th Gen Core And RX Vega Brawn With InfinityEdge Beauty
Dell is the latest to embrace this new "combo" chip, and has placed it inside the XPS 15 2-in-1 convertible. In fact, Dell is proclaiming that the new XPS 15 2-in-1 is "the world's most powerful 2-in-1 ever" -- a claim that Hewlett-Packard has also used for its new Spectre x360 15, which was announced yesterday morning. We'll just have to wait until we get both on our test bench before we can crown the "true" king in this category.
Customers will have the choice of either the Core i5-8305G (6MB cache, 3.8GHz) or the Core i7-8705G (8MB cache, 4.1GHz). Both are quad-core chips, and both come with Radeon RX Vega M GL GPUs with 4GB HBM2 onboard. Systems can be configured from the factory with either 8GB or 16GB of DDR4-2400 memory, however, customers can install up to 32GB if they choose.

When it comes to the 15.6-inch display, customers have two InfinityEdge options to select from. The first is a FHD (1920x1080) touch display, while the real beauty is the optional UltraSharp 4K UHD (320x1800) touch display.
Other specs include PCIe SSDs ranging in size from 128GB to 1TB, two Thunderbolt 3 ports with PowerShare, two USB-C ports with PowerShare, microSD reader and a headphone jack. Wireless connectivity is handed by either Intel 8265 802.11ac Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 4.1 or Killer 1435 802.11ac Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 4.1.
Dell includes a 75 WHr battery (not user-replaceable) inside the CNC-machined aluminum chassis which is good for up to 15 hours of runtime.
Dell will also be selling its Premium Active Pen as an accessory for the potent convertible. The Bluetooth 4.2-based pen has 4096 levels of pressure sensitive for finer control, tilt support for superior shading while drawing, and works in conjunction with Dell's palm-rejection technology. It also includes a top-mounted button that allows you to launch OneNote, capture a screenshot or activate the Cortana digital assistant. There are also two buttons on the barrel and a Quick Launch button.
The Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 convertible will be available this spring with a starting price of $1,299. The Dell Premium Active Pen goes on sale April 6th priced at $99.99.
We should note that the XPS 15 2-in-1 will be joining new XPS 13, which HotHardware has already reviewed in great detail. The XPS 13 was updated for 2018 with 8th generation Intel Core processors and a new Alpine White/Rose Gold finish (optional).
