CD Projekt Red might be hard at work on several new projects, including the next entry in the The Witcher series, but the studio is still taking time to push out exciting new updates for existing titles. Cyberpunk 2077, which originally released in 2020, is getting a new content drop that ties in with the second season of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime that debuted on Netflix today. This season brings an entirely new cast of characters to give a fresh perspective into the world of Night City, allowing fans to further soak in the lore of the futuristic city.

The studio says that Update 2.5 will be “marking yet another opportunity to dive back into Night City or experience it for the very first time.” Players will be treated to additional features, items and content that will be based on the new season of the popular anime. Associate game director Pawel Sasko got the hype train rolling by posting, “so f[_]ng hyped about what we cooked for you,” on social media platform X.

This update is significant enough that there will be a dedicated REDstream event to give players a glimpse at everything that’s coming. Some of the features that have already been teased include new cyberware customization that will allow for even more character permutations, the addition of a dual wielding playstyle for the more offensive minded, and a promise of even "more."

This new update is a bit of a surprise, as CD Projekt Red had previously announced that it would no longer be releasing DLC or expansion packs for the game. What likely changed the calculus on this particular release is that the studio wants to capitalize on the second season of the anime hitting Netflix with the hope that viewers can be shifted into becoming new players. The release of the first season of the Edgerunners anime coincided with the game's return to the zeitgeist after its many, many fix and upgrade patches, so CD Projekt is probably hoping for a similar player count surge.

Fans will get all the details when the Redstream goes live tomorrow (October 21), which will be available on both the studio’s Twitch and YouTube channels. Meanwhile, Update 2.5 will follow soon after on October 22 and will be a free download.
