Infinity Ward is planning to reveal details about cross-platform play in
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, during a livestream event today. It will also be sharing information about what is to come in the second weekend of the beta. Incidentally, that is also when the beta will extend beyond the PlayStation 4 to include Early Access on the Xbox One and PC.
Cross-play support in
Modern Warfare is a highly anticipated feature, and one that is long overdue—no previous Call of Duty game allows players on one platform to play against competitors on another platform. The livestream is also set to be the first official look at cross-play in Modern Warfare, assuming we get to see it in action.
The livestream is scheduled for today at 10:00am PT (1:00pm ET). It will take place on Infinity Ward's
official Twitch channel. We imagine it will draw a lot of eyeballs, considering that cross-play still
far from a common feature in AAA games, as hard as that is to fathom in this day and age. Infinity Ward is promising to reveal "a great deal more about how cross-play works" during its livestream.
Naturally, Infinity Ward has been hyping cross-play in Modern Warfare, given the interest the feature generates among gamers. It's also been preparing for the big
beta weekend.
"As you might have already gathered, there’s an impressive and ever-changing series of maps, playlists, and content additions coming as the cross-play beta ramps up! If you’re wanting more precise details on the content available, look for additional information @CallofDuty and @InfinityWard on social media," Infinity Ward stated in a blog post.
Infinity Ward is also recommending that PC players who own a GeForce graphics card update their GPU driver. The latest GeForce driver (436.30) is a "Game Ready" release optimized for the Modern Warfare beta.
The second weekend of the beta kicks off Thursday, September 20. On Saturday, all restrictions on the beta get lifted.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the 16th installment in the Call of Duty franchise, and considered a soft reboot of the Modern Warfare series. It features both a single-player campaign and of course multiplayer gameplay. Barring any last minute delays, Modern Warfare will launch on October 25, 2019.
