Samsung Straps Massive 3500 mAh Battery To All-Weather Galaxy S6 Active

Nearly a month after we first brought you images and some early specs for the Galaxy S6 Active, AT&T and Samsung today have officially announced the rugged smartphone. Needless to say, the early specs that we brought have turned out to be a direct match for the shipping product.

The Galaxy S6 Active is very much a “standard” Galaxy S6 at heart, which means that you still receive an octa-core Exynos processor with 3GB of RAM, Samsung’s gorgeous 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED display, the highly praised 16MP rear camera, a 5MP front-facing unit, wireless charging support and Android 5.0.2. As we reported previously, the battery has seen a substantial upgrade to 3,500 mAh — up from 2,600 mAh on the previous generation Galaxy S5 Active and 2,550 mAh on the standard Galaxy S6.

The standout feature for the Galaxy S6 Active, however, is its rugged housing which meets MIL-STD-810G standards for shock resistance. It also has an IP68 rating for dust intrusion and water resistance. In other words, the Galaxy S6 Active is likely to survive accidents and spills that would send your Galaxy S6 to an early grave.

The Galaxy S6 Active will be available on AT&T Next 24 for $23.17/month on Next 24, $28.96/month on Next 18, and $34.74/month on Next 12. In addition customers who purchase a Galaxy S6 Active will qualify to receive a “free” Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 with a new, two-year service agreement. Customers who purchase a new Galaxy S6 Active will also be eligible to receive a Samsung Wireless Charging Pad for half off the retail price.

The Galaxy S6 Active will be available starting June 12 in Camo White, Camo Blue and Gray.
